CrossFit entered my life in 2011 while starting my college education. Pursuing a career in the healthcare field, I knew taking care of my personal health would have to become a priority. I had become bored with the common fitness industry which included bicep curls and running on the elliptical four days per week. I needed something more; something to push me day in and day out. CrossFit gave me this.
Everyday I walked into the gym Im greeted by friends or perhaps more appropriately, family. Everyone shares a common interest in bettering themselves in ways beyond health and fitness. CrossFit helps to development mental strength and toughness by asking of ourselves more than we are used to giving in the gym, which in turn leads to an increase in mental toughness in all aspects of life. Beyond the psychological benefits of CrossFit, the health benefits are second to none.
Much controversy surrounds CrossFit due to it’s unique and novel ways of bringing complexity and simplicity together across multiple domains of physical fitness. It is this controversy which separates good “boxes” from great ones. The level of expertise and coaching ability are the primary agents involved in reducing the controversy and assuring members are safe and they achieve the most out of each and every workout.
